The 2008 C300 is different (later W204 cars must have the same auto only design as the W205 as you describe). I have owned the car since it was new and it only began to malfunction about a year ago. The straight up position of the headlamp switch is labeled "0", and it is the off position. It worked fine for about 11 years.
